Natural Vision Improvement Through Use Of Proper Lighting

There are several things you can do to improve vision at home naturally. One of the easiest things to overlook is lighting. Good lighting is essential for good vision. Dust the lights in your work area often to make sure you have an ample supply of light. Working in a dimly lit area strains your eyes. Reading or hobby rooms should be well lit. When reading in bed use a bedside lamp.

The type of light you are using is important. White light is softer and causes less eye strain than the old standard yellow light bulbs. Improper lighting can cause eye strain along with blurred or double vision. Natural light is best, when possible take breaks outdoors to give your eyes a break.

The color used in home decorating effects the way your eyes process light. At home use color schemes that include contrast help to reduce eye strain. Lighter colors make rooms look bigger. Dark colored walls make rooms look smaller. Paints with a matte finish reduce glare. To decrease eye strain use lighter and brighter colors. Using dark color schemes throughout your home can affect your vision negatively.

Use contrasting colors in home decorating. Using contrasting colors and proper lighting in your home will help decrease eye strain while improving your vision naturally. Contrasting colors exercise your eyes without straining them. Put white paper liners in drawers in the kitchen so you can easily find items in the drawer. Use light table covers with dark or bright colored dishes.

Clutter also increases eye strain and makes it difficult for those with low vision to identify what they are looking at. Naturally clutter gives your eyes more to look at increasing the work they have to do to identify items. Unfortunately this work doesn't improve vision.

In the kitchen keep counters free of clutter. Use dishes that contrast with the colors of the food being served. Cutting boards should contrast in color from the foods being cut. The contrasting colors make it easier for your eyes to define one object from the other. If you are using a bright orange cutting board to chop carrots your eyes have to work harder to see the edges of the vegetable than they would while you us a white board under the orange food.

In the bathroom, towels and rugs that contrast with the colors of the walls and the floor help to reduce eye strain. Keep drawers and counter tops clutter free. Organize the medicine cabinet to display items so they can be easily found. Bathrooms are usually well lit which helps vision. Some bathrooms have heat lamps or other high light sources that shouldn't be used all of the time but are helpful when putting on make-up and getting dressed.

In the family room use of colors is important as is placement of televisions and lights. Many homes do not have overhead lights in the family room or television room. Light is important to proper vision. Selection and placement of lights in a room needs to be done with eye strain in mind. If the lighting is not efficient your eyes are going to have to work harder than they would if light was sufficient. Place the television and computers where they will have minimal glare. Light should be sufficient but not overpowering in these areas.

When doing activities that require concentration and attention to small details take breaks and remember to blink often. Blinking moisturizes your eyes and rests them. Blinking slowly a few times every hour helps protect vision by reducing stress and increasing eye moisture.

Decreasing eye strain with light, color and contrasting colors helps people with low vision to see at home. As stress and eye strain are reduced vision will improve naturally.
